Resources
Listed below are cat and dog friendly organizations and businesses.
Our experiences with them
resulted in satisfactory outcomes.
Right: Jackie's Purrfect Match is a hard-working
cat adoption group that goes the extra mile in finding homes
for our feline friends. They can be found on Sundays from noon to 4pm at Centinela Feed
at 5299 Sepulveda Blvd. in Culver City. Visit their website at:
www.jackiespurrfectmatch.org. This kitten reminds me of Honey Boy when he was little.
Above: The other fictional animal hospital featured in Beagle Boy Watson was the real-life
Culver Palms Animal Hospital
located in Culver City.
When Watson ran away from home, a kind stranger brought him there, but they were not able to contact us.
After five days, we had given hope that he would be found. Luckily one of CPAH's alert staff saw
our missing dog poster and called the alternate phone number. Thanks to him, Watson was finally
reunited with Gail.
Right: The fictional "Animal Hospital" featured in both books is based upon the real-life
Center Sinai Animal Hospital located near Venice Blvd and Overland Ave in Los Angeles.
Our experiences there have been positive. The owner, Dr. Barry Baum, DVM, writes:
"Dear Sybil,
"We wanted to take a moment to thank you for your patronage. The doctors and staff here at Center Sinai Animal Hospital truly appreciate your loyalty and are honored that you allow us to care for your pets. We make a pledge to you to continue to strive to always provide high quality service and pet care at an affordable price.
"As you know, the success of any business depends on the satisfaction of its customers. Growth of the successful business then depends upon the expansion of that customer base. We rely on direct referrals of new clients by our existing clients that are happy with our service.
We encourage you to refer your friends and family to our facility. We offer a wide range of services including; spay & neuter clinic, dental clinic, boarding and grooming. We also have our own pet insurance program called "Wellcare" and our "Refer-A-Friend" program gives you the opportunity to save $10 on your next visit (ask the front desk for details).
"...We feel that we are the best veterinary hospital and hope that you agree.
Thank you so much for your time and for your support of our veterinary facility. We would not be the best without you."
Take care, Dr. Barry Baum
Left: The Head 2 Tails Foundation is a worthy organization that helps find homes for rescued cats and kittens. You will find them at Centinela Feed on 5299 Sepulveda Blvd in Culver City on Saturdays from Noon to 4:30. (See below)
Visit them and give them a donation.
But don't be surprised if you fall in love and bring home a feline friend!
Right: I patronized Centinela Feed's original store way back when (inset). They have come a long way, but they're still one of the best pet supply stores today. The Culver City store as it appears today.
Left: The West Los Angeles Animal Care Center on 11361 West Pico Boulevard has been serving the public since November 5, 2007. Whether you are looking for a lost pet or a new one, they can help.
