Little Boo and Momma Kitty Update... It's taken 11 months, but Momma Kitty has finally consented to let me pet her if I do so slowly. Her fur is delightfully velvety, I might add. Although MK is still cautious, but she has relaxed a whole lot.

Little Boo is now 15 months old and is in good heath. Her little baby face (see below) has matured, but she still retains many of her kitten qualities. She looks so much like her mother that they are hard to tell apart. Hint: MK has blue eyes.

Zatoichi and Wrinkles are brother sharpeis. The blonde dog, Zatoichi is a 8 year old half lab,
half sharpei that came from a New Mexico. “Zato” was transfered to a no-kill shelter in Boulder where he was adopted by the Laurens 6 years ago. Nowadays, Zato loves going on walks with his humans.

Wrinkles is 5-1/2 years old. He came from the Longmont Humane Society and was adopted when he was just 4-1/2 months old. He was a little black sharpei puppy that grew to super size within two years. Wrinkles has had health issues and is currently being treated for liver cancer.

Both dogs are now living in Colorado. “Zato and Wrinkles are brothers and they love each other and they love us.” - Linda & Gordon Laurens. (Update... sadly, Wrinkles passed away this year from cancer.)

Little Boo

MK (Momma Kitty) was semi-feral and living under a house for quite sometime. In July of 2010, she gave birth to kittens. My friend, Terence took pity and rescued the entire family. He cared for MK by cleaning her up, giving her shots and getting her fixed. Homes were found for all the kittens except one.

I adopted that kitten and named her Little Boo. Terence loved the mother cat, but couldn't properly care for her as he traveled a lot for work. 6 weeks later, MK was reunited with her daughter when she came to live with me. Boo, knowing only kindness, took to me right away. MK, having been half wild, is slow to trust, but I'm winning her over a little at a time. - Tally.

Earlier stories:

Kitten named Toast "Last summer, a friend of mine found a litter of kittens in her backyard. She kindly offered me one since she could not care for them all. I begged my parents for weeks until they finally gave in and agreed. The day came, and I went to pick up my kitten at Cape Cod. My friend and I ran around for a few hours trying to catch the kitten until we finally set up a “trap.” We took the cat carrier and put food in it. Luckily, the kitten I wanted was hungry, he went right in and I captured him. It was sad for the kitten, yes, but it was the right thing to do. The next day we found out he had worms, fleas, and some other diseases. He was taken to the vet and treated. Now he is a healthy, neutered, twelve pound cat named Toast." - Julia Y.

"I received this book for Christmas from Karen G. and I just love it. I have been taking cats in off the street for years. I was very surprised when I opened the book and came face to face with one of my cats. His name is Moe and he was a stray. He is the twin to Honey Boy. I have 6 cats right now and 5 of them were strays. I am known as the cat lady on Henry St. Thank you..." - Linda J.

Chiquita the dog In 1990, my friend and fellow artist, Patty Grau. rescued a stray dog during her lunch break. Her son, Billy named the dog "Chiquita" -"because her tail looked like a banana hung over her back."
While visiting, I asked Patty what Chiquita's breed might be. I was told she was part Chow and part Dingo (wild dog.) I wasn't sure if she was joking.

Chiquita passed away in 2008, but she had lived a good life for 18 years as a beloved member of Patty's family. That's pretty remarkable. - Tally

Cypress, the Golden Retriever. "Ah yes, new dog. Cypress, a rescued Golden Retriever. Very big and very beautiful...she's helped to heal us of our loss. I never thought i'd get over Chiquita, she was w/us so long and fiercly independant, to the end. And we loved that about her.

"This dog is just the opposite, very needy and affectionate. WE were "chill" to it at first, but she broke us down, We're a happy family again." - Patty Grau

“I have become more of a cat lover (although I've always liked them) - as I adopted "Katrina" from the local shelter last Christmas time. She had been a stray, although I can't imagine someone not looking for her. She is a longhaired calico, and she is beautiful. She loves me, and sleeps on my bed every night, waking me up in the morning by poking me with her paw, or walking on top of me! It's so nice to have someone (something) welcome me when I get home each day.” — Carolyn A.

“Hi Sybil and Tally, Thanks for being such a pet-animal adoption advocate voice, my kitty says thank you too!” — Lisa B.

“And I could relate to the two older sister cats [that] did not take well to the addition of a kitten, because my Maine Coon cats - Charlotte and Agatha were just like that. But they got along fine with our beagle. They died at 16 and I didn't get any more pets, since I travel a lot. But I sure still miss them.” — Dot Q.
